Ras Rmel, the Pink Flamingo Island
Around Dar Ines — Midoun, island of Djerba
In the north of Djerba, the Ras Rmel peninsula — nicknamed Flamingo Island — offers a postcard setting: a long sand spit, a lagoon and, in season, pink flamingos.
A sand spit and a lagoon
Ras Rmel is a thin tongue of sand reaching into the sea, edged by a shallow lagoon. The turquoise water and pale sand make it a favourite for a quiet swim.
In season, pink flamingos gather on the lagoon, hence the spot’s nickname. It is a preserved natural site, to be treated with care.
Getting there
Ras Rmel is reached by small boat from the north coast, or on foot depending on the tide. Early morning brings lovely light and few visitors.
Bring water, a hat and sun protection: the place is wild, with no shade. Back at the villa, the private pool brings the cool of the late afternoon.
